The Story

Every Muslim believes that Islam is a complete and comprehensive way of life. However, many do not truly connect with the Holy Quran, the core of Islamic teachings. Merely reading, reciting, or memorizing the Quran does not amount to a real approach. True engagement means understanding its message, the guidance it offers, and the responsibilities it outlines. Without this understanding, one cannot claim to have grasped the Quran or live by its teachings.

The Quran is unlike any other book. Unlike human-authored texts organized into chapters and subheadings around single topics, the Quran is unique in its structure, style, and language. Revealed over 23 years, its verses were sent down in response to real-life situations, offering guidance like that of a teacher or a father. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was sent as a guide for all humanity, and the Quran revealed to him remains a timeless source of guidance for all people across all ages.

Despite changes in society, culture, and science, the Quran continues to offer relevant guidance. It claims nothing has been omitted from it, and the Prophet (PBUH) emphasized that those who turn to other sources will be misled. Hazrat Umar also stated that nations will rise or fall depending on their relationship with this Book. History affirms this truth, showing the success of those who adhered to Quranic teachings.

A key concern remains: how can an ordinary person, unfamiliar with Arabic, benefit from the Quran? Muslim scholars have addressed this through various forms of exegesis and explanation, starting from the Prophet's time. Over the centuries, numerous works have been written to explain the Quran’s meaning, language, and message—some exploring its eloquence, others compiling themes, or even relating scientific truths to Quranic verses.

Modern scholars also created dictionaries and indexes to help readers better navigate the Quran. One such valuable effort is "The Quranic Prism" by Malik Abdul Hakim, who spent seventeen years compiling it. This index gathers all verses on specific topics—like interest or intoxicants—under one heading, making it easier to locate and study related content. Arabic text is provided with Urdu and English translations, using reliable translators such as Maulana Fateh Muhammad Jallundhri and Pickthall.

This work is particularly helpful for researchers, scholars, and everyday readers alike. It allows for deeper understanding, easier memorization, and greater access to the Quran's teachings. Malik’s work reflects devotion, careful research, and broad-mindedness, drawing from various schools of thought without bias.

His stay in the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah further enriched his spiritual perspective. The index includes all 6,336 Quranic verses (according to one counting) and offers a structured, thoughtful way for readers to access and reflect on the Quran’s message.

In a time when worldly distractions dominate, efforts like the Quranic Prism reconnect believers with divine guidance, helping them seek Allah’s mercy with clarity and sincerity.
